The criticism that Billie Eilish is “selling out” because of a change in her personal style has prompted her to respond.
The 21-year-old singer had a meteoric rise to fame as a teenager, when she became recognised for her eccentric fashion sense and use of vibrant hair dye.
Billie has always been one to experiment with her own style, but as she has matured, she has opted for a more refined, feminine image.
While it’s normal for your taste to change as you mature, Billie had to defend herself against the criticism she’d gotten for doing so.

The ‘Bad Guy’ singer vented her frustration over the weekend on Instagram, writing to her followers: “I spent the first 5 years of my career getting absolutely OBLITERATED by you fools for being boy ish and dressing how I did & constantly being told I’d be hotter if I acted like a woman.
To paraphrase, “And now that I feel confident enough to wear anything even feminine or fitting, I CHANGED and am a sellout.. and ‘what happened to her’ oMg iT’s nOt thE sAmE biLlie she’s just like the rest bla bla bla.
Idiots, that’s what you all are. LOL. Let women exist, you f*cking idiots, I can be both!
‘FUN FACT!’ she said. Were you aware that ladies have many different sides to them? Really shocking, huh? Women, contrary to popular belief, may have more than one passion.
Those who called Billie a “sellout” were met with the response, “Suck my absolute c**k and b**ls you women hating a** weirdos.”
The ‘No Time To Die’ vocalist also made the point that “femininity does not equal weakness” and that women may feel free to express themselves in a variety of ways at various points in their life.
Billie has been showing her feminine side more and more as of late, as seen by her appearance in a transparent black lace dress over a black satin corset at the 2023 Met Gala in New York earlier this month.
However, the internet almost collapsed the first time she was seen in public wearing a form-fitting tank top instead of her signature baggy clothes.
She explained her preference for loose clothing in a 2019 Calvin Klein commercial, stating, “I never want the world to know everything about me.” That’s why I like to dress in loose, roomy garments.
“Because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, nobody can say anything,” she said.
The commentator went on to say, “Nobody can be like, ‘Oh she’s slim-thick, she’s not slim-thick, she got a flat a**, she got a huge a**.’ No one can make such a claim with any degree of certainty.
Fans also noted that Billie’s previous fashion choices were motivated by a desire to avoid objectification and that the response she received when she finally broke out of her shell was repulsive.
