Jeremiah and Neal were strays that wound up in a high-kill shelter in Texas. They were taken in by different people, and they found themselves completely alone.
Jeremiah eventually made his way over to Neal and sprawled out on top of him. Seeing the two pups in such agony, the shelter reached out to Stacey Silverstein, the founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC
Rescue Dogs Rock NYC founder Stacey Silverstein told The Dodo, “Jeremiah sought comfort, and Neal was accepting of it.” To paraphrase the movie, “They knew they were in danger.”
The two pups would have likely perished if Silverstein hadn’t stepped in to save them. High-kill shelters have the unfortunate reality of euthanizing many healthy, pregnant, and wounded pets.
In the same enclosure, Silverstein freed another dog named Jagger. Jeremiah’s eye ulcer may cause him to become blind, and all three dogs developed mange.
