Dayna, the actor’s wife, issued a statement saying:
Actors who worked with him recalled him as “charismatic and insightful,” recalling how he would jingle his pocket change while he thought over a scene, then “leap onto the stage to work out the blocking or whisper in an actor’s ear.”
To quote one of his many admirers: “He was revered for providing the support and guidance that allowed actors to fully develop their characters on stage.”

Castillo, who had previously worked with Sherman Hemsley on stage, reportedly won his first on-screen job on The Jeffersons thanks to Hemsley’s encouragement.
His breakthrough role was as Mario Lopez’s fictional dad on Saved by the Bell, which aired from 1992 to 1994. From 1992 through 1994, he was well praised for his role as Judge Davis Wagner on the hit show General Hospital.
Castillo has had many film appearances, including Through Naked Eyes, Death Wish 4: The Crackdown, State of Emergency, and Above Suspicion, as reported by People.
Before retiring in 2012, the 90-year-old was reportedly active as a stage director for shows in Los Angeles and Ventura.
