According to an old adage, you only get one chance to make a good first impression. But that chance never arrived for this dog, who was living on her own and in filth.
She appeared hostile when we first met her, but she had every right to be. She was defending what mattered most to her.
When volunteers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis arrived on the scene, they were welcomed with a ferocious female dog who would not stop growling.
The rescuers then heard tiny newborn puppies screaming when they listened closely. That explains her harsh demeanor. She has good reason to be defensive. She has to look after little souls.
